PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1998--

Palomar College to Meet California Community College Reporting Demands with PeopleSoft

PeopleSoft, a leading provider of enterprise application software, today announced that the University of Massachusetts system, including all five campuses, and two Louisiana State University system schools have licensed PeopleSoft Human Resources Management for Education and Government; Financial Management for Education and Government; and Student Administration; and that Palomar College has licensed PeopleSoft Student Administration.

Over the past six months, 32 higher education institutions have licensed PeopleSoft applications including Clemson University, Galludet University, Princeton University, University of Colorado, University of Missouri, University of Rochester, Grand Rapids Community College, and Maricopa Community College District.

Palomar College is the first California community college to license PeopleSoft Student Administration. Palomar College joins Houston Community College System, Metropolitan Community College, St. Petersburg Junior College and College of Lake County, Illinois, in its adoption of PeopleSoft applications.

"PeopleSoft provides colleges and universities with the specialized information technology that students, faculty and staff demand," said Vicki Tambellini, vice president of sales for higher education at PeopleSoft. "We continue to work closely with educational institutions to develop enterprise solutions that increase productivity and self-service throughout campuses nationwide."

Of the 32 colleges and universities that licensed PeopleSoft applications in the past six months, 22 licensed PeopleSoft Student Administration. PeopleSoft Student Administration was developed in cooperation with seven institutions during a two-year Collaborative Development Program.

PeopleSoft Student Administration is a suite of six applications tailored to meet the specific needs of higher education organizations. The suite includes Academic Advisement, Admissions and Recruitment, Campus Community, Financial Aid, Student Financials, and Student Records, as well as the new technology and features recently made available with PeopleSoft 7.

The University of Massachusetts Picks PeopleSoft for Self Service

The University of Massachusetts (UMass), a leading center of public higher education in the Northeast, licensed PeopleSoft Human Resources Management for Education and Government, Financial Management for Education and Government, and Student Administration to replace its disparate homegrown systems and provide 57,000 students, 15,000 faculty, and staff with Internet self-service.

Two main goals of UMass were to improve services to end-users at the five schools that make up the UMass system (Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Worcester) and to enhance their administrative and financial data for better decision making. The integration capabilities of PeopleSoft enterprise applications, as well as PeopleSoft's industry leadership and commitment to responding to business changes through product upgrades, were critical factors in UMass' decision.

"The University went through an intensive business restructuring program and we determined that PeopleSoft would link the disparate schools together by streamlining communications and administrative functions, making us a better run, service-oriented institution," said Stephen W. Lenhardt Sr., vice president for management and fiscal affairs and treasurer of the UMass system.

UMass will use PeopleSoft Student Administration to provide "one-stop shopping" for its students through its web enabling applications. Students will be able to access records and transcripts, pre-register for classes, pay bills and fees, and submit enrollment applications online. UMass also plans to use the system to provide more convenient services to prospective students, applicants, and parents.

"Our students were simply not getting the information they needed using our home-brew system. Specifically, we experienced serious technology problems during semester openings," said John Dubach, associate chancellor of UMass Amherst. "UMass' licensing of PeopleSoft Student Administration demonstrates our strong desire to improve student service."

Within its five campuses, the University of Massachusetts annually confers over 10,000 degrees, including 460 doctorate, 2,500 master's, and 7,000 bachelor's degrees.

Two LSU Schools License PeopleSoft Enterprise Solution

Louisiana State University Medical Center and the University of New Orleans, two divisions of the Louisiana State University (LSU) System, licensed the PeopleSoft Human Resources Management for Education and Government, Financial Management for Education and Government, and Student Administration enterprise business solution suites.

The LSU System schools selected PeopleSoft for its robust, sophisticated software, the company's understanding of relational database and client/server technology, and its customer-oriented business style. The LSU System schools are looking forward to enterprise system benefits such as a common graphical user interface, generation of timely and accurate reports, ease of modification, update capabilities, and information technology support for a decentralized institutional infrastructure.
