IDG's InfoWorld and AvantGo Partner to Offer InfoWorld Electric on Handheld Computers

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1998--InfoWorld, a pace-setting IS newsweekly that covers products used in corporate enterprises, today announced an agreement with AvantGo Inc., the authority in managing mobile information, that will make information published on InfoWorld Electric (www.infoworld.com) available to users of handheld computers.

InfoWorld is the only AvantGo content partner with a "channel" that provides news, reviews and opinions on enterprise computing.

AvantGo software takes advantage of Web technology so that companies can build, deploy and manage mobile applications on Palm Computing and soon WindowsCE-compatible platform devices. Mobile users choose the Web address or channel they want to receive, and that channel is updated each time the device is synchronized.

The InfoWorld To Go channel will offer the top 10 news stories, which are updated daily, plus weekly product reviews and opinions from such industry luminaries as Bob Metcalfe, Robert X. Cringely, Nicholas Petreley and Mark Tebbe. Other publishers announced today as content partner "channels" include: CNET, Excite, Mercury Center, The New York Times and Wired.
