Essential Communications Announces Its Highest Capacity 32-Port HIPPI Switch; The new ESS-2000 switch is priced 25 percent less than competitive HIPPI products

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1998--Essential Communications, the leading provider of Gigabit networking solutions, today announced its ESS-2000, a 32-port, non-blocking, chassis-based, crossbar switch for HIPPI networking.
Essential's new switch is list priced at 25 percent less than competitive HIPPI products.
The ESS-2000 supports up to 32 simultaneous, full-duplex connections, delivering 800 megabits/sec transmit and 800 megabits/sec receive for a total bandwidth of 25.6 gigabits/sec. The switch utilizes redundant power supplies and supports hot-swappable Media Interface Cards (MICs), providing HIPPI customers with highly reliable and easy-to-use networking capabilities.

The ESS-2000 utilizes Integrated Switch Management, using SNMP, which enhances the switch with such features as easy configuration, traffic routing, statistics gathering, alternate path routing, hunt group definition and troubleshooting. The 19" rack-mountable design uses Essential's new dual port serial MIC cards.
The ESS-2000 is available for 60-day delivery and has a list price of $100,000 for a fully populated, 32 port serial configuration.
