Nova Southeastern Law School Ranked No. 1 ``Most Wired'' Law School in the United States

Business Wire, Nov 12, 1998

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1998--Today The National Jurist released an article ranking Nova Southeastern University Law Center as the No. 1 "most wired" law school in the United States.

The article, "The 25 Most Wired Law Schools in the Nation," rated NSU Law a perfect 4.0 among the 180 U.S. law schools, well above the 3.83 scored by the second place school, the University of Illinois.

The Jurist describes how the use of technology makes students' tasks more simple:

"Imagine taking all your exams on-line, checking your e-mail from

the washroom, and joining your classmates for a Saturday morning

study group without getting out of bed. It sounds futuristic, but

one school is already there. Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova

Southeastern University in Florida ranked at the top of the Most

Wired list, and they are so far ahead of the pack, they have

actually gone wireless."

NSU Law students operate their computers in a wireless environment. Numerous access points installed in the ceilings of the Law Center and Library act as transceivers wired to the network. Student computers have network interface cards. The access points allow wireless clients to roam through the Law Center without losing the network connection.

To assure that NSU Law students are up to speed on the latest software technology, all new students are required to complete an intensive workshop that covers all the basics necessary to master Corel Amicus Attorney and Hot Docs. These programs feature state-of-the-art technology utilized in contemporary law office operations and contain a library of technical legal forms.

Since the fall of 1997, laptops have been the norm at NSU Law, one of eight law schools that require students to have laptops. All entering students are required to utilize a laptop computer for their course work and are given the option of purchasing a new DELL laptop through the school or bringing their own configured to meet the Law Center's technology requirements. For more information on NSU Law's technology, call Billie Jo Kaufman, Law Library Director, 954/262-6211.
