World Leader In Windows-Based Terminals Conducts Special Event

With SCO At Bellagio Hotel; Winterm 3000 Series On Display In

Microsoft Partner Pavilion

Wyse(R) Technology's Senior Director and General Manager Jeff McNaught will highlight Wyse's presence at Fall COMDEX as part of an expert panel discussion addressing "The Promise of the NC versus the Reality." The keynote panel, moderated by InfoWorld's Ephraim Schwartz, takes place on Tuesday, November 17 at 11:15 a.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton. McNaught will specifically address why the NC never delivered on its promises of simple, cost-effective network computing and discuss the direction Wyse has taken with its new network terminal to deliver on the NC promise.

In the Microsoft(R) Partner Pavilion, Wyse will be demonstrating the tried and true Winterm(tm) 3000 series of Windows(R) CE-based terminals. Wyse Winterm Windows-based terminals will also be highlighted in the booths of several other thin-client proponents, including Citrix(R) Systems, Compaq and National Semiconductor. On Wednesday, November 18 at the highly acclaimed Bellagio Hotel, Wyse and SCO will co-host a special breakfast to address the future of network computing and publicly demonstrate Wyse's new Winterm 5000 series network terminal which is optimized to run in a heterogeneous server environment.

MCNAUGHT OFFERS INSIGHT TO NC'S FUTURE

"Through a great deal of market research, Wyse recognized more than a year ago that the NC was just too much of a compute device. It was not the low-cost thin-client device Larry Ellison and everyone else had hoped it would be, since most of the processing was still taking place on the client. This is the key reason why early adopters held back on their purchasing decisions," said McNaught. " By listening to what our customers were saying, Wyse made the decision to abandon the NC in favor of a leaner network terminal. This device delivers on all of the promises of the NC while limiting acquisition costs, keeping all of the computing functions on the server and providing the ultimate in desktop flexibility."

As the executive charged with al new product development strategies at Wyse, McNaught spearheaded the creation and evolution of the Winterm product line. The Winterm 2000 series was the first Windows(R)-based terminal to reach market in 1995, and Wyse has since expanded the family to include the Winterm 3000 series of Windows CE-based terminals and the Winterm 5000 series network terminal. McNaught is recognized throughout the industry as a leading resource for information on the thin-client market. Earlier this year, McNaught participated in thin-client panels at Spring COMDEX and Networld Interop, and was a featured speaker at the Citrix's first annual Thinergy Conference.

1998 A BANNER YEAR FOR WYSE TECHNOLOGY

As 1998 winds to a close, Wyse Technology has successfully positioned itself as the forerunner in thin-client computing. According to an August 1998 bulletin (No. 16955) by industry analyst firm International Data Corporation (IDC), Wyse has maintained its position as the worldwide leader in Windows-based terminal shipments through the first half of 1998. The company expects continued success through the end of the year as the Winterm 3000 series Windows CE-based terminal begin to ship in volume.

Wyse recently pioneered a new category in thin-client computing called the network terminal wit the debut of the Winterm 5000 series. Equipped with a local browser and 15 additional embedded terminal emulations this "Swiss army knife" of a thin client is the first offering to actually deliver on the original promise of the NC and will eventually obviate the NC as a viable desktop solution.

The Network Terminal complements Wyse's Winterm 2000 and 3000 series of Windows and Windows CE-based terminals supporting RDP and Microsoft's Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, and Citrix's ICA for use with WinFrame or TSE running MetaFrame. The Winterm 3000 series features integrated ACSII/ANSI and IBM 3270/5250 emulations for seamless integration into existing legacy terminal and IBM mainframe and AS/400 environments. Wyse has continued its strong support for organizations that wish to deploy ICA clients through Wyse's enhanced Winterm 2000 series featuring integrated audio output and optional embedded 3270/5250 emulation.
