Legato Systems and ATL Products Team to Demonstrate Storage Area Network-Based Disaster Recovery; Legato Systems Demonstrates Support of SAN-Based Applications
Business Wire, Nov 16, 1998
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 1998--Legato Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO), a leader in the enterprise storage management software market, and ATL Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATLPA), a leading supplier of automated DLTtape(tm) libraries for networked computers, today announced the demonstration of enhanced disaster recovery through Storage Area Network (SAN)-based remote vaulting at COMDEX Fall.
The demonstration includes a combination of the Legato NetWorker cloning feature and Fibre Channel attached to an ATL P1000, enabling remote vaulting over Fibre Channel distances. This automates creation of duplicate tapes for fast-access to on-site archives, and off-site disaster recovery vaults.
"Customers deploying SANs to improve disaster resiliency and overall storage management capabilities will benefit from this solution," said Nora M. Denzel, senior vice president at Legato Systems, Inc. "The enhanced disaster recovery capabilities offered through SAN-based remote vaulting will eliminate the window of vulnerability before disaster recovery tapes are sent off-site."
Chet Baffa, vice president of Marketing and Sales at ATL added, "The modular architecture of NetWorker and the P1000 library will provide customers the ability to deploy SCSI-based automated backup systems today with a cost effective upgrade path. Customers can add-on Fibre Channel-based disaster recovery capabilities by simply adding NetWorker software and by adding Fibre Channel PCI cards into the P1000 expansion slots."
ATL is a participant in the recently launched Legato SAN Ready Certification Program, which addresses key business requirements of companies and organizations that are planning to optimize storage performance and minimize storage administration through dedicated SANs based on Fibre Channel.
"Legato's SAN Ready Certification Program is an important platform from which ATL will launch its entry into the SAN market," said Baffa. "The P1000, with embedded Fibre Channel interface and bridging will provide businesses with a SAN backup appliance that is easy to buy, install and operate."
