Trillium Digital Systems Inc. and QNX Software Systems Ltd. Join Forces to Enable Faster Product Cycles
Business Wire, Nov 2, 1998
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1998--
OEMs Can Now Quickly Integrate Trillium's Full Suite of
Communications Software With QNX's Mission-critical Operating
System
Responding to demands of networking equipment manufacturers who need to achieve both faster product cycles and higher availability, Trillium Digital Systems Inc. and QNX Software Systems Ltd. (QSSL) have cooperated on the development of an interface to be offered by QNX that allows fast integration of Trillium's communications software products with the QNX real-time operating system (RTOS).
The collaboration between the two industry leaders means that manufacturers of telecom and datacom equipment can now quickly combine Trillium's field-proven software solutions -- which include protocol stacks for SS7, ATM, H.323, V5, ISDN, Frame Relay and X.25/X.75 -- with the highly robust Universal Process Model (UPM) architecture of the QNX RTOS. With UPM, the QNX RTOS extends full memory protection to system-level services and drivers, thereby reducing downtime and enabling software upgrades on live telecom/datacom systems.
"To integrate voice and data, next-generation networks will need much higher levels of reliability," said QSSL CTO Dan Dodge. "With the Trillium protocol stacks available on QNX, networking solution providers can now take advantage of the same highly robust OS technology that has made QNX popular in medical instruments, emergency response systems and a host of other mission-critical environments."
"By providing an integrated software solution, the Trillium and QNX combination enables OEMs to concentrate on what's important -- differentiating their products," said Trillium CTO Larisa Chistyakov. "OEMs can focus on adding innovative features to their products, rather than spend considerable effort, and time, on system-level functionality."
Availability
Support for Trillium's software products will be available from QNX for both the QNX 4 and QNX/Neutrino RTOSs. Support for QNX 4 is planned for year-end 1998. Support for QNX/Neutrino will coincide with release 2.0 of QNX/Neutrino. Trillium protocol stacks are currently available from Trillium.
