Based On the Cogent's Breakthrough K-10 MPEG-2 Splicing Technology,

the K-1 Provides an Entry Level Splicing Solution for

OEMs and System Integrators

6 Cogent Technology, Inc., a leading provider of products and services for the development of advanced digital television systems, introduces the K-1 Digital Program Inserter.

Based on Cogent's breakthrough K-10 MPEG-2 splicing technology, the K-1 provides an entry level solution for OEM's and systems integrators designing digital head-end systems to meet local content and/or advertising insertion needs.

The K-1 is a superset of Cogent's M-8 Digital Remultiplexer which enables hardware assisted DVB/ATSC multiplexing and de-multiplexing, PCR regeneration, PTS/DTS re-stamping and asynchronous data insertion. Combining the M-8 with enhanced software and microcode provides advanced stream manipulation functions for seamless near frame accurate splicing.

The K-1 performs splicing at the MPEG level, which enables seamless frame accurate splicing on preprocessed streams and seamless near frame accurate splicing on unprocessed streams. By performing splicing at the MPEG level the K-1 ensures that the VBV model remains valid at all times and maintains AV synchronization of the audio and video throughout the splicing process. These capabilities cannot be guaranteed by transport stream processors.

The distributed object software development kit for Windows NT makes it easy and effective to develop powerful multi-threaded DVB processing applications. The K-1 is available now and is priced at $9,750, including the software development kit. Delivery is 45 days ARO.

Cogent Technology, Inc. is an emerging company whose mission is to deliver advanced hardware and software that help broadcast equipment manufacturers, system operators, and programmers solve key problems migrating from analog to MPEG-2 delivery systems.
