FullTime Announces Updated Version 3.2 of Octopus for Microsoft Windows NT; Adds Open File Synchronization, Throttling and Support for Microsoft Cluster Server

Business Wire, Nov 23, 1998

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 23, 1998--FullTime(tm) Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:FTSW), a leading developer of enterprise-wide, cross-platform adaptive computing solutions, today announced its updated version 3.2 of Octopus for Windows NT.

Octopus--a key product within FullTime's HA Foundation line--provides data protection for small- to mid-size department environments and features ease-of-use and non-intrusiveness.

FullTime has extended the robust availability and replication functions of Octopus with a feature called open file synchronization, which allows users to synchronize files even when they are open on the source system. This means users have no interruption in production service levels while the initial copy of data is made, because files can be open or in use during synchronization.

The new throttling feature in Octopus allows users to proactively manage the rate, in Kbytes per second, at which mirrored data is placed on the network. The rate of data being transferred from the source system to the target system can be scheduled, enabled or disabled, and can be configured from the scheduled option screen in the "throttling" dialog box. Users can have throttling enabled all the time, or have it apply only for certain times and dates.

Octopus 3.2 also supports easy installation and use within a Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) configuration. Octopus complements MSCS capabilities by protecting data to other systems and even off-site for disaster recovery. It mirrors data out of a MSCS cluster to either a single system or to another MSCS cluster. This provides data protection from a Windows NT cluster set up with MSCS. Octopus can also protect the data within the cluster even when switch-over of Octopus or other applications occurs.

"FullTime is committed to enhancing our HA Foundation products--Octopus and HA --with new features and functionality for high availability in both the Windows NT and UNIX markets," said Dave Malmstedt, senior vice president of field operations, FullTime Software.
