Business Wire, Nov 24, 1998

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 24, 1998--Pinnacle Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: PCLE), today announced that its best-of-breed image management solution, Lightning 1000(tm), has been awarded Broadcast Engineering Magazine's 1998 "Readers Choice Award." This award is given to companies whose product has received the most inquiries at the publication during the last 12 months.

About Lightning

Lightning 1000 is Pinnacle Systems' top of the line image management product, offering 1, 2 or 3 channel operation. It is aimed at the high-end broadcast market, in installations where many systems are likely to be networked together. It is available with Digital, Analog or Analog Digital I/O. Standard storage capacity is more than 5000 stills, with internal expansion capability beyond 10,000 stills. With the addition of external disk drives, storage is unlimited.

Fast and easy to use. With Lightning 1000, users can quickly recall and play video images-in less than half a second locally, and in less than one second over external servers on a 100BaseT network. Its Graphical User Interface makes it a snap to use. And with Lightning 1000, importing files over a network or from the Internet is as easy as dragging and dropping. There's even support for over 40 different file formats.

Powerful networking, search, and storage features. The Lightning 1000 comes with built-in networking between Lightning systems, as well as to external servers and the Internet. With its high-speed database search engine, users are able to locate the right image by number, date, title, category, user, memo, and other fields. With the addition of the Company's optional Dynamic Network Access (DNA) feature, users can even browse and access images on non-Lightning platforms, such as Mac,(tm) SGI,(tm) and Quantel.(tm)

Built-in 3D DVE. The Lightning 1000 comes with a 3D DVE, which gives users the ability to place and size the image, add borders and drop shadows, and rotate and change its perspective in 3D, independently on each channel. Users can even bring stills to air using a keyframed 3D DVE move, such as a swoop or page turn.

The power of BroadNeT. BroadNeT empowers all of Pinnacle Systems broadcast products to quickly and easily move graphics and text across both standard video and computer networks. This integrated broadcast products solution enables networking of third-party platforms such as PCs, MACs and even Quantel Paintboxes, without additional interfaces. Images and data can be quickly imported from the Internet into BroadNeT-empowered applications and converted to broadcast-ready formats on the fly. BroadNeTs interconnectivity creates a new collaborative workflow, allowing effects and graphics to be created for real-time playback to air.
