Hills Reassigns Merchandising Responsibility; Announces Resignation of Larry Angst

CANTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1998--Hills Stores Company (NYSE:HDS) today announced that Larry Angst, executive vice president - chief merchandising officer, has resigned to pursue other interests. Chaim Y. Edelstein, chairman and new chief executive officer of the company, assumes full responsibility for the company's merchandising and marketing functions, effective immediately.

Edelstein, who has served as the company's chairman since 1996 and was named chief executive officer last week, has more than 25 years of experience in retail merchandising. The company's senior merchandising and marketing executives now report directly to Edelstein.

Angst joined Hills in 1994 and was named to his current position in July 1997.

The nation's eighth largest discount retailer, Hills operates stores primarily in the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes regions, with a majority of its stores located in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and Indiana.
