National Reader Survey Of 5,000 Moms Reveals The Baby Products

Parents Can't Live Without

American Baby Magazine presented its Best of the Year Awards (AMBYs) to a select group of baby products its readers said they could not live without.

"For the first time in its 60-year history, American Baby magazine has created a special awards program to honor the best baby products of the year, as chosen by the real experts -- the parents themselves," said American Baby's Editor-in-Chief Judith Nolte.

Who better than the parents to select the products that have made baby care easier, better, safer, and more enjoyable. Readers were asked to name three products that fit these criteria. And more than 5,000 enthusiastic replies came in by mail, fax, phone, e-mail -- everything but carrier pigeon. The awards will be presented to the winning manufacturers in conjunction with Baby Faire.

And the winners are...Fisher-Price's Vibrating Bouncer Seat is the top vote getter.

"I love the seat," says one of the moms, "because it's like an extension of a mother's arms."

The Graco Open Top Swing came in second and was a favorite with moms because "when he's colicky or teething, he can take a nap in the swing."

In third place is the Diaper Genie from Mondial Industries, popular because it wraps soiled, smelly diapers in a bacteria-resistant bag so" you can't even tell when we change diapers," says one mom.

Number four is Evenflo's Exersaucer Plus, a hit with parents because it offers hours of fun and "is a much safer alternative to baby walkers."

The Playtex Spill-Proof Cup is in fifth place and cherished by parents because "it keeps juice from becoming a permanent part of the carpet."

In sixth place are Huggies Overnites Diapers, which, according to one of the moms, "is the only diaper that keeps my son's sensitive skin from getting diaper rash."

Pampers Premium Diapers, in seventh place, scored because of "their great fit and the cloth material with the grip tabs."

The Graco Bassinet Pack 'N Play, number eight, can be set up easily in mom's office, and "I can put it there or anywhere I go," says a happy mom.

Number nine is the Medela Pump in Style. Raves one mom," It's lightweight, easy to clean and use, and I can go back to work and still give my daughter all the benefits of breastfeeding."

Finally, the number 10 winner is the Fisher-Price Musical Lights 'n Sounds Gym, a multi-media entertainment center that "our daughter has used every day since birth," says one mom. "She plays with it and smiles and laughs like crazy."

Products that received honorable mention are the Evenflo On My Way Travel System; Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier, Camp Kazoo Boppy pillow; Braun Thermoscan EZ, and Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment
