FEATURE/James Traub of The New York Times Magazine and Craig Turner of the Los Angeles Times Share 1998 Korn/Ferry International Journalism Award for Excellence in U.N. Reporting

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE FEATURES)--Oct. 1, 1998--James Traub, contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, and Craig Turner, U.N. Bureau Chief for the Los Angeles Times, were selected by a panel of eight leading judges as the 1998 recipients of the Korn/Ferry International Journalism Award for Excellence in United Nations Reporting. The award recognizes U.S. journalists who contribute most significantly to the understanding of the United Nations.

The journalism award was established in 1989 by Korn/Ferry International, the world's leading executive search firm, in cooperation with the Business Council of the United Nations. Previous winners include John Goshko, U.N. Bureau Chief of The Washington Post; Charles Hanley of Associated Press; Jon Stewart and Edward Epstein of the San Francisco Chronicle; Geraldine Brooks of The Wall Street Journal and Stanley Meisler of the Los Angeles Times (Mr. Meisler received the award again in 1992); William Branigan and Keith Richburg, correspondents for the The Washington Post; Jeanne Moos, a news correspondent for CNN; and Paul Lewis, United Nations correspondent for The New York Times, who was the first recipient.

Mr. Traub and Mr. Turner were officially honored for their achievements at the BCUN Ambassador's dinner on Monday, September 28 in New York, where they shared the first place prize of $5,000.

The judges for the 1998 Korn/Ferry International Journalism Award were William E. Ahearn, Executive Editor, Associated Press; Philip Bennett, Foreign Editor, Boston Globe; Douglas Clifton, Executive Editor, The Miami Herald; William German, Editor, San Francisco Chronicle; John H. Lyst, Editor, Indianapolis Star; David Mazzarella, Editor, USA Today; Robert J. Rosenthal, Executive Editor, The Philadelphia Inquirer; and Jacqueline Thomas, Editorial Page Editor, Baltimore Sun.

The Korn/Ferry Journalism Award is open to any journalist from the commercial print or broadcast media that are published or aired in the United States.
