MIAMI--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Oct. 1, 1998--In what can only be described as a stunning coup based on rapid and strategic action, Radio Unica, the only 24-hour Spanish-language radio network in the U.S., announced that it has secured the exclusive U.S. radio broadcast rights to Copa America 1999 & 2001, Gold Cup 2000 & 2002, and qualifying matches for World Cup 2002 - the most prestigious and coveted soccer tournaments for U.S. Hispanics prior to World Cup 2002.

With this announcement, Radio Unica firmly solidifies its position as "La Primera en Deportes," delivering to U.S. Hispanics nationwide sports programming of their choice.

"This unprecedented broadcast-rights agreement is one of the most significant contracts in U.S. Hispanic sports programming history. It speaks to our long-term commitment to both our listeners and our advertisers," said Joaquin Blaya, chairman and CEO of Radio Unica Corp. He continued: "Soccer is the strongest sports property there is for U.S. Hispanics. We will deliver to our listeners the most important soccer tournaments into the next millennium. Radio Unica's coverage of these immensely popular tournaments will be unrivaled by any other Spanish-language media outlet in the United States."

Radio Unica purchased the right from Inter/Forever Sports Inc., an international, full-service soccer marketing company with headquarters in Miami and affiliated offices in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

With this exclusive broadcast rights package, Radio Unica - the network that delivered World Cup-France '98 to millions of U.S. Hispanics nationwide - will air approximately 175 soccer matches. Radio Unica's coverage of Copa America, a tournament sanctioned by CONMEBOL, will begin in July 1999. The Network's exclusive broadcast of Gold Cup 2000, a tournament sanctioned by CONCACAF, is scheduled to air in February 2000. Tournament dates for Copa America 2001 and Gold Cup 2002 are not yet confirmed.

Radio Unica - La Primera en Deportes - launched on Jan. 5, 1998 and is the only 24-hour, long-form, Spanish-language national news-talk, sports, information and entertainment radio network in the United States.
