DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1998--
Clik! Mobile Drive's Low-Cost, Removable Storage Extends
Functionality of Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition
Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM) today announced that its Clik! product line is listed as a removable storage option in the new Windows CE operating system, Handheld PC (HPC) Professional Edition, the third-generation software from Microsoft Corp. for the Handheld PC.
The first rotating media removable storage option to be specified for Microsoft Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition, the low-cost, high-capacity Clik! solution extends the functionality of HPC devices by allowing users to take more of their desktop with them when on-the-go.
"Both Iomega and Microsoft understand that today's mobile professionals want to do more with their portable products, and especially their HPCs," said James Kelly, president, Mobile Storage Division, Iomega. "Microsoft Windows CE, HPC Pro Edition software re-defines the handheld category, while Iomega's Clik! drives and disks are designed to fundamentally change the way people use their portable products. It's exciting to support Microsoft in ushering in a new generation of functionality and performance in handheld computing."
"The announcement of Iomega's Clik! Mobile storage platform - which supports Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition, is praised by Microsoft," said Jonathan Roberts, general manager, Consumer Appliance Group at Microsoft. "HPCs are desktop PC companions, but mobile professionals are saying that desktop-like capabilities and capacity in their HPCs will help them stay more productive and connected. Products like Iomega's Clik! Mobile Drive will help extend HPC functionality for mobile professionals."
About Clik!(TM) drives and disks
The Clik! mobile storage system is designed to improve the convenience of portable digital products such as HPCs and digital cameras. 40MB Clik! disks, which are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 1998 for an estimated street price as low as $9.95 each (U.S.) when purchased in a 10-pack, are designed to store more than current mobile storage solutions and cost much less. Clik! disks can hold several Microsoft PowerPoint presentations or several hundred Microsoft Excel or Word documents, and can just as easily hold up to forty megapixel, or near 35-millimeter quality photos, like a digital roll of film, or thousands of e-mail messages with file attachments.
The lightweight, hand-held Clik! Mobile Drive is designed to be an ideal storage companion for today's portable digital products, such as handheld personal computers. With the potential to connect to virtually any portable digital or desktop product, customers will be able to easily share information between products, using 40MB Clik! disks, and synchronize it back to a desktop computer.
Iomega's Clik! Mobile Drives are expected to be available in the U.S. during the fourth quarter of 1998 for an estimated street price as low as $200. A low-power, low-cost version of the Clik! drive for OEMs, ideal for inclusion in portable digital products such as handheld personal computers, digital cameras and smart cellular phones, is expected to be available in the same timeframe.
