Internet Specialties West Inc. Rolls Out DSL, 1.5Mbps Internet Access for Corporations and Consumers

Business Wire, Oct 12, 1998

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1998-- Internet Specialities West Inc. (ISWest) Monday announced the availability of its Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service to more than 72 cities in Southern California.

ISWest's DSL service is a fast and affordable digital access service connecting consumers and small businesses to the Internet at speeds up to 1.5 megabits per second (Mbps) over ordinary copper telephone lines.

ISWest's DSL service allows corporate employees or "teleworkers" who work at home on a part-time, full-time or after-hours basis to enjoy similar response times as their in-office counterparts when transferring files, accessing the Web or downloading presentations.

At its top speed, the DSL service is up to 50 times faster than most dial-up modem connections and 10 times faster than ISDN. And unlike dial-up services, there is no wait to connect and no busy signals. Once installed, the high-speed connection is always on and available, just as it is for an employee working in the office.

DSL is a flat-rate service saving companies thousands of dollars on toll charges. Prices for ISWest's DSL to and from the home or office are as follows: -0-

IDSL 144 -- access rates up to 144Kbps for $150 per month
SDSL 192 -- access rates up to 192Kbps for $160 per month
