ADVISORY/Santa Monica Chief of Police James T. Butts, Mayor Robert Holbrook to Give Update on Santa Monica German Tourist Incident

WHAT:    On Monday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 p.m., a German visitor was
         murdered in Santa Monica.  This tragic incident occurred near
         the beachfront area of the 1600 block of Appian Way.
         Officers transported the victim to UCLA/Santa Monica
         Emergency Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

         Chief of Police James T. Butts will provide an update on the
         investigation, which is an isolated incident.  Mayor Robert
         Holbrook will express the city's sorrow and heartfelt
         sympathy for the victim's family.  A question-and-answer
         period will follow.
