Sierra Imaging Announces Image Expert CE To Support Microsoft Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition; First Digital Imaging Software to Run on Latest H/PC Platforms
Business Wire, Oct 16, 1998
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 1998--Sierra Imaging, Inc., the only company offering OEMs all the necessary components for digital still camera product success, today announced its intent to support devices powered by the Windows CE operating system, Handheld PC Professional Edition (the third-generation software from Microsoft Corp. for the H/PC).
Sierra is the first company to offer a Windows CE 2.0-based imaging solution for every Handheld PC, and the first to offer imaging solutions for this new class of Handheld devices.
Image Expert CE acts as the interface between your digital camera and the rest of the world. Together with a Handheld PC, Image Expert offers a mobile imaging solution allowing users to view JPEG images from a digital camera or any other source, annotate them with voice, ink or text and distribute them via email. Image Expert CE users can also share images with their desktop PCs by automatically synchronizing to the Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT version of Image Expert.
"The new class of Handheld PCs running H/PC Pro Edition software are the perfect match for Image Expert CE software," said Barbara Matthews VP marketing for Sierra Imaging. "The new larger displays come to life with color images, and therefore are well-suited to mobile professionals' requirements."
"The announcement of Image Expert CE -- which supports Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition -- is praised by Microsoft," said Jonathan Robert, general manager, Consumer Appliance Group, Microsoft Corp. "The ability to organize, annotate and communicate digital images using a H/PC will enable new workflow solutions in several vertical markets, further establishing Windows CE as a leading open and expandable mobile computing platform."
Image Expert CE was first introduced to the public at PC Expo in New York last June. In August, Sierra Imaging initiated a very successful public beta program attracting the interest of users of Windows CE from all over the world. Image Expert CE 1.0 for Windows CE 2.0-based Handheld PCs has been shipping since mid September.
"Image Expert CE is the 'Killer App' for the Handheld PC," said John Omvik product marketing manager for Sierra Imaging. "A picture does paint a thousand words. Anybody that needs to communicate or document their work while away from their office should use this product."
Pricing and Availability
Image Expert CE is available for sale directly from Sierra Imaging. An electronic download version retails for $49.95. A CD-ROM version can be purchased for $69.95.
