REMINDER/Garfield High School Students Go High-tech; Teachers and Students raised $300,000 To Bring High-tech Resources to the Classroom

WHAT: The unveiling and tour of the Garfield High School's

Construction Manufacturing Technology Laboratory (CMT). The CMT

brings state-of-the-art technology into the classroom to teach

students about construction, manufacturing and technology, and

prepare them for jobs in these fields.

WHO: Garfield High School students and teachers joined forces with

Emerald City Rotary to raise $300,000 for the renovation and

expansion of the Construction Manufacturing Laboratory.

Contributors include the William H. Gates Foundation, Glaser

Foundation, Associated Builders & Contractors of Western

Washington, Emerald City Rotary Foundation, Washington State

Conference of Mason Contractors, Associated General Contractors

Foundation, Sellen Construction, Northland Communication

WHY: Studies show that kids who have access to technology in the

classroom are learning more and are better prepared for today's

job market. The student-directed hands on Construction

Manufacturing Technology Laboratory will provide students the

opportunity to learn about three major industries: construction,

manufacturing, and technology. Hands-on activities include

designing, building and evaluating products; using computers to

control devices; creating business documents to support

construction projects; and manipulating tools, machines, devices

and systems.

SPECIAL NOTE: Media will have the opportunity to meet with students, teachers

and donors, and see first hand how technology is empowering

students.
