Transcendent Introduces TransVerSE, a Verilog-A Simulator for the System Market; First Fully Compliant Verilog-A Tool For System Simulation

Business Wire, Oct 19, 1998

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998--Transcendent Design Technology has introduced a new Verilog-A simulator, TransVerSE (Transcendent Verilog Simulation Environment).

TransVerSE fully adheres to the newly established industry standard language, Verilog-A. Verilog-A is an extension of the widely popular industry standard language, Verilog-D. The standard for Verilog-A/AMS including analog and mixed signal extensions of Verilog-D recently has been developed by the Open Verilog International (OVI) organization.

Verilog-A is a simulation language that may be used to describe and simulate complex behaviors of analog circuit behavior to multiple design domains such as electromechanical systems.

TransVerSE uses a compiled-based architecture that provides enhanced simulation performance and incremental recompile for fast design iterations. The Verilog-A compiler generates optimized code that may be linked with C-modules. TransVerSE is fully SPICE compatible; SPICE subcircuits may be read directly or SPICE primitives may be incorporated into the Verilog-A description.

Verilog-A has a rich set of mathematical operators enabling the description of complex system behavior. For example, system transfer functions may be specified using Laplace or Z transforms.

Lawrence Rubin, president and CEO of Transcendent, stated: "It is becoming increasingly difficult for developers of large complex systems such as vehicles to continue to increase their design productivity without some major changes in design methodology. System simulation is going to be a necessity if companies wish to reduce their dependency on physical prototypes and maximize design optimization."

Transcendent intends to extend Verilog-A to include continuum models such as FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) for modeling electromagnetic effects. Transcendent also expects to offer a mixed-signal version of TransVerSE in the future.

TransVerSE includes a compiler, simulator and graphical debugging environment. TransVerSE will ship its first release early in 1Q99; it will be priced at $40,000 and is available on the SPARC Solaris platform. All major UNIX and Windows NT platforms will be supported in future releases.
