IXC Completes LA to San Francisco Network Link; Western Corridor Segment Aimed at Meeting Demand for Heavy IP Data Traffic

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--IXC Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:IIXC) today announced the activation of a 520-mile fiber network segment between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Part of the company's rapidly expanding national fiber network, this recently completed segment targets two of the top Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSAs) in the country with a combined total population of more than 20 million. IXC now has activated more than 9,300 fiber route miles and is on track to activate 13,000 fiber route miles reaching all of the top 50 MSAs during the first quarter of next year.
"With so much of the country's technology industry based on the West Coast, it's critical that ISPs and other carriers have access to a high-capacity, technologically advanced network to meet the rising demand for data traffic," said Ben Scott, chairman and CEO of IXC.
