SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--Artecon, Inc. (Nasdaq:ARTE), a global leader in high-availability open systems network- and server-attached storage solutions, has won the prestigious 1998 Electronics Industry Recognition Award from the San Diego Council of the American Electronics Association (AEA) in the category of Computers, Computer Peripherals and Software.
The annual award was presented at the AEA's San Diego Electronics Industry Recognition Awards ceremony held Oct. 19, which honors companies that have demonstrated strong financial growth, product innovation and service to the communities of San Diego.
"This was the strongest field of finalists that we have had," said event co-chairman Robert Weaver, partner in the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP. "The winners stand out as truly outstanding companies in a community of great high-tech firms. It was a challenging year for the judges, as we had so many strong companies."
"Artecon is very proud to receive this honor from the AEA's San Diego Council," said James Lambert, president and chief executive officer of Artecon, in accepting the award at the La Jolla Marriott Hotel. "Over the past year we have faced many challenges and successes, including the acquisition of two companies, which has positioned us as one of the world's largest third-party open systems, independent storage companies serving both the PC-LAN and Unix markets."
The American Electronics Association's San Diego Council represents more than 175 technology-based businesses, and nationally the AEA represents over 3,000 companies.
