Exodus Appoints Former IBM and Secure Computing Executives to Manage Key Areas of Growth; Appointments Made to Drive Strategic Business Development and Expansion into Asia-Pacific

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--To manage key areas of the company's growth, Exodus Communications(tm), Inc. (Nasdaq:EXDS), a leading provider of Internet system and network management solutions for enterprises with mission-critical Internet operations, today announced the appointment of industry veterans to manage strategic business development and expansion into the Asia-Pacific region.

Joe Stockwell, former vice president, business development for Secure Computing Corp., joins Exodus(tm) as vice president of business development. Bob Weingarten, former IBM project executive for Info '98 Worldwide Olympic Technology in Japan, joins Exodus as vice president of operations for Asia Pacific. Stockwell will report directly to Ellen M. Hancock, president and CEO of Exodus, and Weingarten will report directly to Louis J. Muggeo, Exodus' vice president of customer support and services.

Stockwell will drive Exodus' strategic transactions and business development. He will also manage acquisitions, joint ventures and significant development and distribution alliances. Weingarten will manage the company's international business operations in the Asia Pacific region.

Stockwell, Exodus Communications' new vice president of business development, previously held the position of vice president, business development at Secure Computing Corp. In this position, Stockwell developed alliance partnerships with such companies as Cisco, Digital, Netscape, Microsoft, 3Com and Silicon Graphics.

Prior to that, Stockwell spent seven years at Apple Computer, where his most recent position was senior director of corporate development. His significant achievements at Apple included overseeing the initial spin-out of Apple Newton Systems Group and the formation of Newton, Inc., the acquisition of NeXT Software and the development of the Apple/Sun Microsystems alliance. Stockwell earned his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School in 1985.

As vice president of operations for Asia Pacific residing in Tokyo, Weingarten brings to Exodus more than 28 years of experience in the IT industry with a concentration in Asian-Pacific markets. Eight of those years have been spent in Japan where his last assignment was as the project executive for the Info '98 Worldwide Olympic Technology at IBM Japan. In this position, Weingarten provided on-site management for the 1998 Winter Olympic Information System that featured an Olympic Family intranet as well as an Internet environment for the general public.

He also served four years in Japan with IBM Asia Pacific Services Corporation as the program director for key customer applications and telecom strategy. Previous to that, Weingarten spent two years as director of IBM Japan's Tokyo programming center. Weingarten received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from New York University.
