Rainbow Technologies Announces OEM Availability of FastMAP High Performance Public Key Integrated Circuit Processor
Business Wire, Oct 21, 1998
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1998--Rainbow Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:RNBO), a leading supplier of cryptographic accelerator hardware boards for increased secure web server performance, today announced the OEM availability of FastMAP, the world's fastest public-key cryptography integrated circuit.
FastMAP is the ideal single chip performance solution for Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), financial processing, and other security oriented hardware products.
FastMAP is a member of the NetSwift line of OEM products and the heart of Rainbow's CryptoSwift II secure web server accelerator and NetSwift-1000 PCI card. FastMAP utilizes a family architecture and interface that provides software compatibility with future generations of Rainbow Technologies' IPSec accelerators.
This compatibility allows OEMs to leverage existing software development efforts and continue to use the same cryptographic software base code to obtain increasing levels of cryptographic performance. In addition, FastMAP is a scalable solution multiple FastMAP devices can linearly increase cryptographic performance.
"FastMAP is able to perform a wide variety of public key algorithms with extraordinary speed," according to Shawn Abbott, Rainbow's Chief Technical Officer. "The versatile FastMAP integrated circuit is well-suited to supporting many emerging cryptographic protocols."
FastMAP is perfect for use in applications providing secure solutions for high volume servers, firewalls, routers and gateways utilizing IPSec, ISAKMP, SSL, SET and other popular protocols utilizing public key cryptography. With dual exponentiators and a PowerPC (PPC) 401 controller, FastMAP can perform a reference 1024-bit RSA public key operation in under 5 milliseconds.
In comparison, a Pentium II(R) at 400Mhz takes 25 milliseconds -- five times longer -- to complete the same operation. RSA operations in varying modulus sizes up to 4096-bit are supported. FastMAP also performs Diffie-Hellman (DH) and the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) faster than any other integrated circuit currently available.
Availability
FastMAP is now available in production quantities.
