Business Wire, Oct 22, 1998

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 22, 1998--

Company to Offer Competitively Priced, High-Speed Internet

Access to Home Office and Business Customers Throughout Its

Regions

ICG Netcom, a leading integrated communications provider offering high-quality telecommunications products, today announced that it has launched its state-of-the-art digital subscriber line (DSL) service in California and Colorado.

Utilizing traditional copper telephone facilities, ICG Netcom's DSL technology increases bandwidth available for our customers for high-speed Internet access and data connectivity.

ICG Netcom's launch of DSL service in California and Colorado serves as the first phase of a broad deployment of DSL technology. By year-end, ICG Netcom will deploy DSL technology throughout its regions including the Ohio Valley, Texas and parts of the southeastern United States with plans for broader deployment in 1999.

ICG Netcom has become the price leader compared to the regional Bell operating companies in California and Colorado and offers pricing competitive with other providers offering similar DSL technology such as competitive local exchange carriers. In addition, the company is providing aggressive agency and volume discounts to Internet service providers wanting to offer their customers affordable, high-speed access via ICG Netcom's DSL service.

"Customers are demanding faster access for their Internet and data needs at a lower cost -- our DSL service meets that need," said J. Shelby Bryan, president and CEO of ICG. "For any small- to mid-sized business that has a low speed dial-up service or a high-priced dedicated T-1 line, ICG Netcom's DSL service offers a fast, affordable option."

The DSL service enables customers to receive fast, reliable, dedicated Internet access and data connectivity at a fraction of the cost of traditional Internet access. In addition, ICG Netcom's DSL service is specifically designed to meet the needs of the small- to mid-sized business customer by providing multiple user e-mail capability, file transfer, web research and other Internet uses. ICG Netcom's DSL service will also be part of a "bundled" offering of local, long distance, Internet and data services with a single point of contact.

"ICG Netcom's DSL service is excellent. Our integrated service digital network connection simply cannot compare to the speed of the DSL service," said Martin Walker, senior vice president of Frequency Technologies, a leading supplier of software for advanced chip design in the Silicon Valley. "In addition, dealing with a single point of contact for voice and data is a true benefit."

ICG Netcom is a new breed of telecommunications company, known as an integrated communications provider (ICP), offering residential and business customers one-stop and data solutions, including local, long distance, high-speed Internet and data products, as well as innovative technologies such as Internet Protocol (IP) Telephony.
