Agreement to Package VERITAS NetBackup with Data General's
Enterprise Windows NT AViiON Server Product Line
VERITAS(R) Software Corporation (Nasdaq:VRTS), the leading provider of end-to-end storage management solutions, and Data General Corporation, today announced a strategic OEM licensing, development and sales agreement to provide Windows NT users with highly scalable enterprise backup solutions.
Under the agreement, Data General will offer VERITAS NetBackup(tm) for Windows NT with its Windows NT AViiON(R) server line. The combination of VERITAS NetBackup with Data General's Windows NT AViiON servers will deliver the performance, scalability, centralized administration and hot, online very large database (VLDB) backups required to ensure continuous data accessibility in large-scale data warehouse and data mart environments.
"Providing best-of-breed, enterprise-class storage solutions for Windows NT customers is a priority for VERITAS and Data General," said David Spenhoff, vice president of marketing for VERITAS. "The combination of VERITAS storage management software and Data General servers and storage devices will help provide continuous data accessibility and easy manageability of storage resources as well as improved system performance for users who are deploying Windows NT in mission-critical enterprises. We are pleased to help users get the most out of their IT investment by partnering with a leading provider of Windows NT systems such as Data General."
"Many of our customers rely on large-scale data warehouses and data marts to house their mission-critical data and applications," said Jim Geronaitis, manager, Storage Marketing for Data General. "As our customers are increasingly deploying Windows NT in these environments, they are looking for enterprise-class storage management solutions to ensure maximum user productivity and return-on-investment from their Windows NT-based systems. VERITAS is a leading provider of enterprise-class storage management solutions, and was a natural choice to help us provide solutions for our Windows NT customers."
VERITAS NetBackup and Data General AViiON Servers Deliver Scalable, Highly Available Backups to Windows NT Customers
VERITAS NetBackup was chosen by Data General because it has a scalable architecture that is designed to meet the needs of a broad range of customers with Windows NT-based AViiON systems. For small businesses and workgroups, NetBackup provides easy, automated installation and configuration.
For large data warehouses and data marts, NetBackup is easily customizable and configurable, supporting a wide array of hardware and automating installation across distributed systems. And for all environments, VERITAS NetBackup provides a cost-effective solution by enabling automated backup operations from a single management interface, consolidating administration of all standalone and networked storage devices.
VERITAS NetBackup helps ensure continuous access to mission-critical database data in AViiON environments by providing hot, online backups of even very large Windows NT-based Oracle, Sybase and SQL Server databases. In addition to Windows NT, NetBackup supports virtually all popular computing platforms, including UNIX derivatives, Novell, Macintosh, and others.
Data General's AViiON server line includes the entry-level AV 2150, which is available with single or dual 300-MHz Pentium II processors; the AV 3700 and 3700R departmental servers, which have up to four 400-MHz Pentium II Xeon processors; and the powerful eight-processor AV 8600 enterprise server.
Through integration with other VERITAS products including VERITAS logical disk management technologies, VERITAS FirstWatch, and VERITAS Storage Manager, NetBackup provides a key component of the industry's only end-to-end storage management solution set for enterprise computing. The VERITAS end-to-end storage offering is an integrated, open family of solutions that ensures continuous availability of data at all levels of operation in an enterprise (at the disk, system, and site levels).
