The day was kicked off with a keynote addresses from Rick Amari, Group CIO of The Limited, Inc., and concluded with a keynote from Ben Barnes, General Manager of IBM's Global Business Intelligence Solutions Group.

In a morning keynote, Rick Amari, Vice President and Group CIO, The Limited, Inc., discussed how his company, facing significant information technology challenges in preparing for the Year 2000, leveraged its highly successful Victoria's Secret data warehouse by replicating it across several brand names to provide decision support capabilities across the entire enterprise. IBM's Ben Barnes Speaks About Transforming Information into Insight
In an afternoon keynote address entitled "Business Intelligence: Transforming Information into Insight," Ben Barnes, the general manager of IBM's Global Business Intelligence Group, addressed how business intelligence technologies like data warehouses, data marts, advanced analytical applications, data mining, and the Internet are transforming businesses worldwide. He discussed why companies in the finance, distribution, healthcare, telecommunications, utilities, insurance, and transportation industries are using these technologies to differentiate their products and services, compete more effectively, and attract and retain profitable customers. Mr. Barnes provided real-world examples of companies that are using business intelligence to build effective relationship marketing programs, identify and contain fraud and abuse, and control operating costs.
