Paradyne Delivers Framesaver Network to Network Service Level Management for Frame Relay Service Providers

Business Wire, Oct 6, 1998

LARGO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 6, 1998--Paradyne Corporation, a pioneer and leader in digital network access, today announced the availability of the FrameSaver(tm) SLV Network To Network Interface (NNI). The NNI is a powerful new diagnostic tool developed for use by frame relay service providers to effectively monitor and manage their networks.

In today's frame relay networks, ubiquitous coverage by a single carrier is often the exception and not the rule. This extension of the network can become the "blind spot" in the delivery of service level management. The FrameSaver SLV System eliminates this problem and enables service providers to more effectively manage their networks directly from their network operation centers. The NNI units are placed at the demarcation point between two networks, such as the Inter-exchange carrier and local exchange carrier, and allow the provider to partition the network into segments. This allows the source of network problems to be pinpointed more quickly and accurately and provides for a faster resolution.

"What we've done is develop a system that allows the service provider to both monitor and troubleshoot the network without interfering with the customer diagnostic measures" said Scott Eudy, VP of Network Access Products. "For example, the NNI will monitor a PVC's committed information rate, but it won't enforce it."

The NNI's ability to partition, or split, the network errors between networks enables network-to-network connections without service quality suffering and it speeds the error isolation process across networks. FrameSaver SLV NNIs are supported on both Port 1 and T1 network interfaces with physical and link layer statistics provided on the T1 interface. Statistics are recorded between end-point and NNI units (exterior information), as well as between NNI units (for interior information). This allows the provider to isolate a problem between the internal network and exterior network when running PVC tests. The FrameSaver SLV NNI incorporates the advanced features provided by the FrameSaver SLV System including service level verification, automatic configuration, router independence, and NMS application support to name a few.
