Dr. Schuller's Hour of Power Adds Viewers in 67 Million Households Via Cable Network

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1998--Dr. Robert H. Schuller, founding pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, will reach millions of new viewers via national cable network broadcasts of his internationally televised Hour of Power program.

Airing on CNBC as a paid program, the Hour of Power will be available to viewers of the cable network's 67 million homes it reaches across the United States. The Hour of Power is also broadcast to Europe as paid programming on CNBC Europe.

Speaking about airing as a paid program on CNBC, Dr. Schuller said, "This is a fantastic opportunity to take our message to people we haven't reached before. The Hour of Power will be seen as a paid program on CNBC on October 11, 18, 25 and November 1 at 8 a.m. Eastern Time, 7 a.m. Central time, 6 a.m. Mountain time and 5 a.m. Pacific time on Sundays.

The Hour of Power is just that, a powerful hour of music, guest interview, and a message of hope and encouragement delivered by Dr. Robert H. Schuller,

the founding pastor of the world famous Crystal Cathedral and author of 31 books. The program has introduced guests from all walks of life to its worldwide congregation.

Dr. Schuller's guest on October 11 will be Dr. Laura Schlessinger, whose radio talk show is heard by millions of people each day. She will discuss her new book on the Ten Commandments, which provide a moral framework for decision making by the thousands of callers who seek her advice on what's right or what's wrong in a given situation. The special musical guest is world renowned flautist, James Galway.

In addition to the Hour of Power's availability on network cable, the program will continue to air on the nearly 200 television stations in the United States and Canada. It is also broadcast weekly in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, the U.K., Europe, the Middle East, Russia, former Soviet bloc nations, and to American service personnel around the world on the Armed Forces Network.

Dr. Schuller was called by the late Reverend Norman Vincent Peale to launch the ministry of his church in 1955, and he was encouraged by Billy Graham to launch the television program in 1970. The Hour of Power is the most widely watched broadcast of its kind in America. It will broadcast its 1500th consecutive weekly program on November 1, 1998, with special musical guests David Foster and Amy Grant. Only three weekly programs in the history of television have aired more consecutive weekly broadcasts. Dr. Schuller commented recently, "Those three programs along with the Hour of Power are all Sunday news programs -- but ours is the only good news program."
