Business Wire, Oct 8, 1998
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 1998--
AvantGo 2.0 Brings Centralized Administration,
On-Line and Off-Line Mobile Transactions and
Database Access to "Jupiter"
AvantGo, Inc., the authority in managing mobile information, today announced that AvantGo 2.0 supports the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE operating system, Handheld PC Professional Edition, and Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE, Handheld PC Edition.
The H/PC Pro Edition is the third-generation software from Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT) for the Handheld PC.
AvantGo 2.0 -- a comprehensive and scalable solution for extending enterprise and Web-based applications to handheld computers -- enhances these new versions of the Windows CE platform for the Handheld PC (previously code-named "Jupiter") by providing centralized administration, forms and universal remote access to Web-based and corporate data in both connected and disconnected modes.
"By definition, mobile professionals don't work in a connected environment," said Felix Lin, CEO of AvantGo, Inc. "AvantGo 2.0 is ideal for Windows CE, Handheld PC Professional Edition software because it enables professionals to access and update corporate data and applications whether or not they have a persistent network connection."
AvantGo 2.0 consists of AvantGo Server, a centrally-administered server with an open architecture; AvantGo Connect, a conduit for desktop and kiosk connectivity; and a major upgrade of AvantGo Client, a highly efficient Web browser for navigating data and interacting with data-entry forms on handheld computers.
Together, AvantGo 2.0 and Windows CE-based devices provide enterprises with the power to put corporate data and resources into the hands of mobile professionals.
"Microsoft is pleased that AvantGo is extending its enterprise applications to Windows CE-based Handheld and Palm-sized PCs," said Jonathan Roberts, general manager, Consumer Appliance Group, Microsoft Corp.
"Products such as AvantGo 2.0 -- which support Windows CE for the H/PC -- make the Handheld PC an integral part of the enterprise computing infrastructure, providing mobile professionals with critical business information -- anytime, anywhere."
