Interix from Softway Systems to Be Included in Intel's Remote Management Toolkit for Windows NT Servers

Business Wire, Sept 1, 1998

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1998--

Software Toolkit Combines Core Technologies That Enhance Remote

Management of Windows NT on Intel-Based Servers

Softway Systems, Inc., developers of Interix(TM), a complete software platform enabling UNIX(R) system applications to run on Windows NT(TM), today announced its inclusion in a remote management toolkit that will be made available through a distribution agreement with Intel(R) Corporation.

A key part of the Remote Management Toolkit spearheaded by Intel, Interix delivers the ability to run shell scripts, use over 300 commands and utilities, access remote servers via telnet or rlogin and run standard system daemons on Intel-based servers running Windows NT.

"Interix for Windows NT Servers gives customers the best of the Windows NT and UNIX worlds," said Rick Echevarria, director of Internet Marketing at Intel. "With the inclusion of the Interix software, users can benefit from access to the wide range of applications available for Windows NT and still have the remote management tools and utilities found on their UNIX systems."

"Enterprise customers really benefit from the cost savings associated with moving from proprietary hardware to servers based upon the new generation of powerful Intel processors," said Douglas Miller, CEO of Softway Systems, Inc.

"With the addition of Interix to their server configuration, they can access and manage their systems as well as run their UNIX system applications side-by-side with off-the-shelf software on Windows NT."

Remote Management Toolkit for Windows NT Servers

Intel worked with Softways Systems and Computer Associates to create a remote management software package for Intel-based servers running Windows NT. The package contains free, 60-day evaluation versions of Softway System's Interix platform and Computer Associates' Remotely Possible(R) product, along with Intel's Remote Diagnostics Infrastructure software.

Recipients of the software package will be able to evaluate the benefits of remote server manageability without geographic and multi-platform restrictions. Using Intel's Remote Management Toolkit, customers will be able to access local or remote Intel-based Windows NT servers, perform diagnostic tests, run system daemons, shell scripts and utilities from any location.

The software package will be unveiled at ISPCON '98 in San Jose, Calif. at the end of the month. All conference attendees will receive a complimentary copy of the toolkit.
