Business Wire, Sept 15, 1998

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1998--Trend Micro Inc., the leader in centrally managed virus protection, participated in the first meeting of AVAR (Asian Anti-Virus Researchers), held in Hong Kong on September 4, 1998. AVAR was formed in June this year to improve the cooperation among anti-virus researchers in the region. AVAR was the idea of Seiji Murakami of JCSR (Japan Computer Security Research Center), and all members are prominent experts from Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Murakami commented, "We hope that AVAR will grow, and will keep close relationships with other international anti-virus organizations so that our effort leads to the worldwide prevention of incidents and damage caused by computer viruses."

The organization has a code of conduct and is committed to improving members' knowledge and skills.

Most AVAR interaction is though a private e-mail list, but the members are anticipating the benefits of the first face-to-face meeting. On the agenda are reports of the local virus situation, the latest anti-virus technologies from each participant and more general discussions on upcoming virus threats.
