Data General Corporation today announced that its AViiON(R) family of servers is the leader in the worldwide NT midrange server market for 1997. According to International Data Corporation (IDC), Data General achieved a 28 percent share in this market segment besting Compaq/Digital, NCR, and NEC, among others. IDC defines midrange servers as those shipped with prices between $100,000 and one million dollars.

The AViiON NT Servers

Data General's NT-based AViiON family includes the entry-level AV 2150, which is available with single or dual 300-MHz Pentium II processors; the AV 2700 deskside server and AV 2700R high-density server capable of stacking up to 12 dual 400-MHz Pentium II processor systems in a single cabinet; the AV 3700 and AV 3700R, which have up to four 400-MHz Pentium II Xeon processors; and the powerful AV 8600 enterprise server, with up to eight 200-MHz Pentium Pro processors. Entry-level AV 2150 servers start at an estimated street market price under $3,500.

"In-a-Box" Packaging

All AViiON NT servers can be utilized in Data General's unique pre-configured, pre-tested rackmounted AViiON "in-a-Box" packages, including NT Cluster-in-a-Box(TM) running Microsoft Cluster Server and TermServer-in-a-Box(TM) running Windows Terminal Server.

"In-a-Box" configurations include two AViiON servers, a fault-tolerant CLARiiON(R) RAID technology storage system, and the company's NTerprise Manager(TM) server management software in a single rackmounted system. NTerprise Manager is a combination of ManageX software and NTAlert(SM) "call home" service support tool.
