Aircraft Parts International Selected to Distribute Ice Shield pneumatic De-Ice Product Line

Business Wire, Sept 9, 1998

FARNBOROUGH, UK and Memphis, TN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1998-- Aircraft Parts International (API), a leading supplier of aircraft parts and services to the airline, commercial and general aviation markets and a subsidiary of First Aviation Services Inc. (NASDAQ: FAVS) announced today at the Farnborough Air Show that API has been appointed by SMR Technologies as the worldwide distributor for their Ice Shield(tm) line of pneumatic de-icing systems.

SMR Technologies has received Supplemental Type Certificates (STC's) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for pneumatic de-icers approved for the Piper Navajo series and the Beech King Air 200-series aircraft. The new product line, called Ice Shield(tm) de-icing systems, is specifically designed to reduce installation time and to provide increased durability. SMR expects to receive additional STC's this year.

"We are extremely pleased to team with SMR Technologies and continue API's mission of bringing the most advanced distribution services available to the aviation parts marketplace," said Jerry Schlesinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of API. Mr. Schlesinger went on to say, "With our new 88,000 square foot warehouse facility, we are able to guarantee our customers delivery of their boots in 48 hours. This is particularly important with a product line like de-ice systems, where long lead-times can lead to excessive customer downtime and lost revenues."

SMR Technologies works with the aerospace industry designing and engineering specialty components and systems. In addition to de-ice products, the company also offers flight-critical aviation products including in-flight refueling system components, smoke, flame and toxicity barriers for commercial aircraft, and helicopter flotation systems for emergency water landings. SMR Technologies is located in Sharon Center, Ohio.

First Aviation is a worldwide leader in providing services to aircraft operators of some of the most widely used military, commercial and general aviation engines as well as to operators of industrial engines. Its operations include National Airmotive Corporation located in Oakland and Long Beach, California, as well as Houston, Texas, which specializes in the repair and overhaul of gas turbine engines, and Aircraft Parts International, the fastest growing supplier of aircraft parts and services to the general aviation and commercial airline markets in the United States, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Company from time to time may discuss forward-looking information. Except for the historical information contained in this release, all forward looking information are estimates of the Company's management and are subject to the various risks and uncertainties including items that are beyond the Company's control and may cause results to differ from management expectations.
