Business Wire, April 27, 1999

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 27, 1999--

Hyperion Integration Server and Informatica's New Business

Components and PowerConnect Will Speed Deployment of Analytic

Applications Across the Enterprise

Hyperion today announced support for Informatica's planned integration between Hyperion Integration Server and Informatica's Business Components and PowerConnect products. Informatica is exhibiting at Solutions '99, Hyperion's second annual user conference that runs through April 28, 1999 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Florida. Informatica unveiled the new products this week at The Data Warehousing Institute Conference in Atlanta, Ga.

Informatica's Business Components are software building blocks that significantly reduce the complexity of accessing operational data and populating analytic applications. PowerConnect is a family of packaged software products that help customers easily extract data and metadata from hard-to-access ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems and legacy applications. By integrating Hyperion Integration Server, a suite of graphical tools and scalable data integration services, with Business Components and PowerConnect, joint customers will be able to leverage data and metadata in their data warehouses and ERP systems to quickly create, deploy and manage analytic applications. With the high performance, scalability and robust analytical power of Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server, the market-leading cross platform enterprise OLAP server, and more than 30 Essbase-Ready tools, customers can extend these rich data sources and deploy a wide range of analytic applications.

"The combination of Hyperion Integration Server and Informatica's new data integration products will provide our joint customers with a powerful suite of tools to leverage corporate data sources and rapidly deploy a wide range of analytic applications, such as product and customer profitability analysis, sales analysis, promotion planning, management reporting, strategic planning and cost management," said Steve Fioretti, vice president of alliance marketing for Hyperion. "With this integrated solution, our joint customers can quickly and cost-effectively extend the value of corporate data sources and speed their return on investment in data warehouses and ERP systems."

"Hyperion's enthusiastic support of Informatica's new Business components and PowerConnect software is a strong validation of our technology," said Diaz Nesamoney, president of Informatica Corporation. "By partnering closely with Hyperion, our joint customers will be able to leverage Hyperion Integration Server to automate the process of delivering scalable metadata-driven analytic applications for users of ERP systems such as SAP and PeopleSoft."

Hyperion Integration Server

Hyperion Integration Server is a suite of graphical tools and scalable data integration services that dramatically reduce the time and expense to create, deploy and manage analytic applications. Hyperion Integration Server uses centralized, reusable metadata to automate the process of creating and managing analytic applications from relational data sources such as data warehouses, data marts, transaction processing applications and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems using Hyperion Essbase OLAP Server. Hyperion Integration Server allows users to seamlessly navigate from summarized, calculated and derived data managed by Hyperion Essbase to detail data stored in relational sources.

Business Components and PowerConnect from Informatica

Business Components are pre-defined application templates -- on either the source data or target application side -- that simplify and expedite the process of building, deploying and maintaining enterprise decision support solutions. Business Components leverage a unique semantic layer to deliver a business-level view of the source system and/or target analytic application from an analytical perspective rather than the more traditional transaction perspective found in most modeling tools and content-rich applications.

This semantic layer insulates data warehouse developers from the inherent complexity of source systems and target applications, enables analytic systems to be built and maintained easily by personnel who are not familiar with the internals of transaction systems, and insulates entire decision support systems from disruptive change in the IT environment (such as mergers and acquisitions, software upgrades, and new product introductions).

PowerConnect is a family of packaged software products that help customers easily extract data and metadata from hard-to-access ERP and other legacy applications. There are three products in the PowerConnect family: PowerConnect for SAP R/3, PowerConnect for PeopleSoft and PowerConnect for IBM DB2.
