Attachmate Corporation, a leading provider of host access management and e-business solutions that leverage host data, today announced RALLY!(R) 6.5, the Windows(R) component of Attachmate(R) e-Vantage for AS/400 with significant productivity enhancements and direct host access over TCP/IP. It lowers administrative overhead with automation of time-consuming tasks and provides flexibility to use the Windows client with the ability to migrate from thick to thin clients.
"We were looking for a solution that was easy to install and configure, didn't take up a lot of resources, and most importantly, allows us to connect over TCP/IP," said Matt Schroeder, First Federal Bank vice president of information systems. "The Windows component of Attachmate e-Vantage for the AS/400 has proven to provide solid connectivity, stability, and manageability. And even better, we are considering Web-to-host for online banking -- when the time comes, resources will already be in place."
TCP/IP productivity enhancements reduce total cost of ownership.
Meeting Attachmate's Year 2000 Product Compliance Definition (www.attachmate.com/y2k), RALLY! 6.5's new enhancements provide an easy, simple, and cost-effective solution allowing for greater stability and productivity. With direct host access over TCP/IP, the Windows client supports TN5250E protocol for direct printing and device naming, as well as router-less access to the Integrated File System for NT (Shared Folders), Remote Command, and native file transfer over TCP/IP. The new version includes several additional enhancements:

Migrate when you want, if you want.
Many AS/400(R) administrators are currently determining how the new Web-based computing paradigm will integrate with existing legacy solutions and technology. For those not ready to discard desktop clients that have been heavily invested in and continue to rely on today, Attachmate e-Vantage for the AS/400 provides flexibility to evolve from Windows-based host access to thin client technology as needed while retaining the option to use traditional desktop emulation indefinitely. It allows customers to dictate when they migrate, not the vendor.
Evolving to e-business with e-Vantage.
Attachmate e-Vantage for the AS/400 is a server-based host access management solution including conventional AS/400 desktop connectivity with the addition of browser-based ActiveX(R) and Java(tm) viewers, deployed from a centralized server, to remote and thin client users. The Attachmate e-Vantage(tm) family of products and services provides a secure foundation for evolving to e-business.
