The Commerce Director 8000, which will be available in volume in early September, enables E-commerce sites to transact secure business and deliver sensitive information at speeds up to 150 times faster than Web servers alone. IPivot will be previewing the Commerce Director 8000 at the InternetASP Forum conference in San Francisco at the Moscone Center on the 17th and 18th August.

Secure Session Verification

The Commerce Director 8000 is the only system on the market that can check every secure Web (https) session to ensure that the content requested is correctly returned from the server. Rather than just supporting a simple script, that only samples a small subset of the pages in the background, the Commerce Director 8000 can use its patent-pending technology to automatically ensure that every session is checked for successful completion. No additional load is placed on the server or applications to carry out this 100% quality assurance.

Secure Session Acceleration

The Commerce Director 8000 enables high-performance multi-server E-commerce sites to deliver sensitive information and transact secure business at speeds up to 150 times faster than Web servers alone. Using patent-pending technology to perform cryptographic processing transparently to the server, it performs all SSL processing, key management and encryption. The result is a tremendous performance boost for heavily trafficked E-commerce sites.

Secure Session Persistence

For sites that run stateful applications, e.g., shopping carts or trading partner order-entry, the Commerce Director 8000 can now utilize cookie information stored by the browser to ensure that each user connects to the same server. This prevents one server from being overloaded when a site gets lots of requests from users all connected via the larger online providers like American Online (AOL).

Secure Session Recovery

Many systems often fail to detect that requests are still being sent to bad servers long after the "persistence" settings should be over-ruled. They blindly send the request to the same server over and over again. The Commerce Director 8000's Secure Session Recovery recognizes early on when to recover a transaction and present the request to another server. The "intelligence" is in knowing when to stop sending requests to servers that are returning too many transient errors.

Performance

The Commerce Director 8000 also supports the IPivot's patent pending Out-of-Path Return mode that was first pioneered by IPivot in its December 1998 release of its Intelligent Broker family of products. In Out-of-Path Return mode only inbound requests are routed via the Commerce Director. Since all outbound responses are routed directly to the client, up to 6,600 http connections/sec are supported.

Security

Remote Telnet access is now secured using SSH, local serial access requires a secure login and OSPF reconfiguration also requires password access, thus allowing administrators to ensure that all Commerce Director 8000s are managed securely, even when placed at remote hosting sites.
