Rapid Logic Releases RapidControl v. 2.4; Apache Web Server, Among Others, Supported
Business Wire, August 17, 1999
ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--
Rapid Logic Inc., a leading provider of intelligent device management software, today announced the release of RapidControl(TM) v. 2.4, which now provides support for any third-party Web server that supports the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) or FastCGI protocol mechanism.
The Apache Web server is among the many commercial Web servers the RapidControl product family will now support. Apache has grown in popularity for its industrial strength and source code access. Additionally, it provides the highest level of security available of any Web server on the market. Wind River's Wind(R) Web Server is another Web server that RapidControl will soon support.
By supporting third-party Web servers, Rapid Logic has given its customers the option to take advantage of open source systems and systems already running on their devices, versus using the HTTP server that comes built in with the RapidControl product family. The company's RapidControl products now scale from a tiny, efficient, device-oriented embedded Web server all the way to enterprise-caliber Web servers. This makes the products enterprise-ready for companies who are moving toward the next level of device management.
Rapid Logic's RapidControl family includes RapidControl for Web(TM) and RapidControl for Applets(TM), which provide Web- and Java-based management, and MIBway(TM). MIBway bridges the gap between Web- and Java-based device management and the SNMP agent. Upcoming product releases will include support for command-line interfaces.
While RapidControl for Web includes an embedded HTTP server, it's the only device management product that also provides a fully integrated framework for Internet-enabling device management around a common, intelligent backplane.
"We repeatedly hear from customers that unifying their disparate device management strategies is one of the key product life cycle challenges they face," said Mark Sigal, CEO of Rapid Logic. "In this regard, the embedded Web server is just one small component piece of a much more complex device management solution. Customers need a way to unify all critical management functions, from SNMP and Web to Java, XML, and even command line interfaces around a common architecture. Rapid Logic's RapidControl stands alone in fulfilling that requirement."
Other new features in RapidControl v. 2.4 include extensive example code and a step-by-step tutorial to get MIBway quickly running with RapidControl for Web and RapidControl for Applets.
The tutorial includes samples using Integrated Systems Inc.'s market-leading Envoy SNMP stack. In most cases, customers will find that MIBway can be used for leveraging their existing SNMP MIBs in Web-based management without having to write any C code.
Rapid Logic's products exploit Rapid Logic's RapidControl Backplane(TM) (RCB), an embedded management architecture that acts as a protocol abstraction layer and bi-directional data dictionary that links embedded data to external data at run-time. The RCB exposes an embedded application's data elements in a systematic and extensible way, allowing manufacturers to provide robust access and control solutions through an ordinary Web browser using very little engineering resources. With the RCB as a foundation, device vendors get a safe migration path from today's management technologies, such as Telnet and SNMP, to tomorrow's, which include DHTML, Java, XML and CORBA.
Rapid Logic's software is platform independent and provides seamless integration with all major real-time operating systems and SNMP stacks. All products also include LiveUpgrade(TM), a unique feature that provides the ability to update a graphical user interface remotely and on the fly without the use of proprietary tools or compilers or rebooting the device.
