Business Wire, August 17, 1999
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1999--
Asymetrix Learning Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASYM), the leader in online learning solutions, today announced it has begun shipping Librarian 6.11, an upgrade to the company's industry leading learning management system.
Librarian now includes enhancements to support the most common network security features, such as firewalls and proxy servers, while still allowing full access to all authorized users regardless of their location. Librarian is able to track the activities of an unlimited number of users of web-based training courses and now enables full tracking of popular off-the-shelf IT web-based courses from CBT Systems and NETg.
"Organizations are deploying on an enterprise scale, instead of a departmental scale, because it's significantly more efficient," said Jim Billmaier, CEO of Asymetrix Learning Systems. "They are also now discovering the need to manage the education of customers and vendors, which increases the need to support thousands of simultaneous users in different locations. Librarian 6.11 is the most scaleable learning management system on the planet, and the enhancements made to this latest version ensure that it is the most secure system as well."
"Corporate IT departments are increasingly concerned about security issues related to the use of applications deployed across locations connected by the Internet," said John Kellum, VP and GM of Learning Products for Asymetrix. "They use firewalls and proxy servers to keep unauthorized users out of their networks, but this often keeps web-delivered applications from working as well. Librarian 6.11 now supports most major firewalls and proxy servers, giving IT departments the freedom to manage web-based courses anywhere in the world without compromising security."
In addition to enhanced security and scalability, the management of web-delivered courseware From NETg and CBT Systems, the industry's two leading IT courseware providers, is supported in Librarian 6.11 through a combination of additional technology and supporting services. For corporate IT departments who have a need to centrally manage courses from either vendor along with other custom or off-the-shelf courseware, the addition of this functionality and service offers tremendous control and simplicity in assigning and tracking courseware completion. The services that accompany the technology embedded in Librarian 6.11 include three days of installation, testing and configuration at the customer site.
"As the industry's leading learning management system, we felt it was important to provide native management capabilities for the industry's leading IT web-delivered courseware," added Mr. Billmaier. "We have already successfully integrated Librarian with courses from NETg and CBT Systems at some of our corporate customers, and the enhancements made to Librarian 6.11 will make this integration even easier in the future."
According to the 1999 CBT and Online Learning Report from Inside Technology Training (report available at www.ittrain.com), Librarian is the market leader in online learning management systems. Coupled with the company's Ingenium management system for instructor-led training, Asymetrix offers the most comprehensive learning management platform available today.
