Jim Rivette Joins 2nd Century Communications as Vice President of Channel Management

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 1999--

2nd Century Communications, a second-generation competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), today announced that Jim Rivette, former president and chief operating officer of Shared Technologies Fairchild Telecom, Inc., will become its vice president of channel management.

Rivette will oversee 2nd Century's channel strategy and identify prospective channel partners.

"His experience at Shared Technologies Fairchild, the country's largest shared tenant service provider and interconnect company, will be invaluable in developing and executing 2nd Century's channel distribution strategy."

As president and COO of Shared Technologies Fairchild, Rivette provided management and direction for the $200 million a year company. Under his leadership, Shared Technologies Fairchild offered shared tenant services, equipment, long distance, local access and maintenance to class A commercial office complexes, convention centers, hotels and individual businesses. The company was also one of the 10 largest interconnects providing equipment and maintenance for its customers. Following the acquisition of Shared Technologies Fairchild by Intermedia Communications, Inc. in March 1998, Rivette added the title of corporate vice president.

Prior to taking the helm at Shared Technologies Fairchild, Rivette served as senior vice president of field operations and as the president of the shared tenant services division. Before joining Shared Technologies Fairchild, Rivette worked at United Technologies Corporation/Building Systems as vice president and general manager and at United Technologies Corporation/Otis Elevator as director of administration and manager of service marketing.

During his career, Rivette held positions in marketing, sales, business planning and operations with full P&L responsibility in the United States and internationally in Singapore, the United Kingdom, France and Russia.

Rivette received a bachelor of science degree in marketing and economics from Woodbury University in California and a master's degree in economics from the University of New Haven in Connecticut.
