Alico Enters Into Contract to Sell 402 Acres in Lee County

LA BELLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1999--

Ben Hill Griffin III, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Alico Inc. (ALCO), announced Thursday that the company has entered into a contract to sell 402 acres in Lee County, to Thomas B. Garlick, trustee, for $15.5 million.

The property is located north of Alico Road and west of the planned extension of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, which will connect directly with Southwest Florida International Airport.

"This is an exciting acquisition of property strategically located near the university, airport, sports arena, high-quality residential communities and major retail centers," said Garlick. He explained that the potential uses for the property include hotel, retail, commercial, park, office and other activities associated with Lee County's "airport commerce" zoning category.

Alico Inc. is an agribusiness company, primarily engaged in the production of citrus, cattle, sugarcane, sod and forest products.
