Excalibur Announces Industry's First Knowledge Retrieval Plug-in For Lotus Notes/Domino
Business Wire, August 3, 1999
VIENNA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1999--
New Power Search Option Offers Single Point of Access to
Any Enterprise Asset From Within Lotus Notes
Excalibur Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:EXCA), a leading provider of knowledge retrieval and digital asset management solutions, today announced the Excalibur RetrievalWare(R) Power Search Plug-in for Lotus Notes that will deliver the world's most advanced search and retrieval functionality to Lotus Notes Domino, a leading groupware platform.
The product was announced in conjunction with the release of Excalibur RetrievalWare(R) 6.7, the latest version of the Company's enterprise knowledge retrieval solution (announced separately today).
Lotus Notes/Domino customers may now elect to choose the new RetrievalWare Power Search Plug-in which enables faster indexing and better performance for simultaneous indexing and retrieval from distributed Lotus Notes servers.
It provides plug-in access to the world's most accurate knowledge retrieval system which enables advanced concept-based, natural language searching on more than 200 standard and proprietary document formats including Microsoft Office and other groupware and document repositories that frequently co-exist in Lotus Notes environments, all from a single query.
Key advantages to using the RetrievalWare Power Search Plug-in revolve around speed, scalability and accuracy of the search. The new plug in reduces time required by other search methods to perform consuming downloads and merging of millions of document references which significantly degrades performance and accuracy of search results.
"Businesses in ICI that have adopted Excalibur RetrievalWare, as one of the tools that help Knowledge Management, require a solution that could securely scale to thousands of users across multiple servers in a Lotus Notes environment," said Dr. Max Pilotti, Consultant, in ICI's Knowledge Management Group. "The new RetrievalWare Power Search Plug-in for Lotus Notes is a major enhancement for organizations that use Lotus Notes and want to expand and distribute advanced knowledge retrieval capabilities throughout the organization."
The Excalibur RetrievalWare Power Search Plug-in utilizes an advanced concept-based search system which allows it to process an intelligent merge across all of the databases before the results are sent back to Lotus Notes.
In addition to processing results significantly faster, RetrievalWare incorporates a consistent and statistically accurate relevancy ranking of results that consistently returns only the best document references matching the query. This ensures users get only the most relevant documents, no matter where they are located.
Other RetrievalWare Power Search Plug-in benefits include:
-- Enforcement of document-level security on integrated 3rd party
security systems -- Searches can occur over multiple security domains (i.e. Notes,
Exchange, and NT) -- Power search options including term highlighting, expansion
levels, relevancy ranking styles, etc. -- Natural language, concept-based searching so users can more
easily and accurately search -- Pattern searching designed to overcome misspellings or variations
in spellings in search queries
