Abaco Joins SAP In Alliance To Extend Pervasive Computing Benefits To Industrial Mobile Workforce; Contributes Key Enabling Technology To Joint Development Effort
Business Wire, August 30, 1999
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 30, 1999--
Today at SAP(tm) TechEd '99, Abaco PR Inc. (Abaco), a leading global developer of industrial mobile computing solutions, announced that it had contributed its enabling technology to a joint effort with SAP AG that will permit the integration of Windows CE-based Automatic Data Collection (ADC) equipment with mySAP.com(tm).
Abaco is one of the many companies SAP is working with to develop a new set of technologies that will enable handheld or wearable Internet appliances to intelligently interoperate and interact with mySAP.com solutions.
"Industrial mobile workers are a critical population because they are at the front line of collecting and using critical supply chain information," said Fernando Alvarez, chairman and CEO of Abaco.
"For them, mySAP.com must be available where they work, whether in the factory or on the forklift. This is the essence of pervasive computing, anytime, anywhere. We are pleased to be working with SAP developers and other SAP partners like Microsoft Corporation to develop applications that will extend mySAP.com benefits."
"We selected Abaco to join our efforts for pervasive computing because of their expertise in mobile industrial computing and for their experience and intimate knowledge of linking industrial ADC devices with the full range of R/3(R) solutions," said Dr. Martin Hofmann, development director for BFA Pervasive Computing at SAP AG.
Abaco contributed its industry-leading technology platform for Mobile Enterprise Management(tm), The Bridge for R/3(tm) inter-enterprise business solutions, which is certified for several standard SAP interface technology connections to R/3. Another key component, Varadero, is a development platform that brings pervasive computing to Windows CE-based ADC devices using a thin-client architecture running over a wireless RF connection. Major ADC hardware manufacturers like Intermec Technologies have chosen the Windows CE operating system to power a new generation of handheld mobile computers.
