Lexmark expanding production of inkjet printer products in Mexico
Business Wire, August 31, 1999
LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 31, 1999--
Lexmark International, Inc. (NYSE:LXK) announced today that it is further expanding its capacity for the production of inkjet products. Lexmark has broken ground for a new plant in Chihuahua, Mexico and is enlarging its existing inkjet operation in Juarez.
The announcement comes just four months after Lexmark broke ground for an inkjet products facility in the Philippines. That plant is expected to be in production later this year. An expansion of the company's inkjet products plant in Rosyth, Scotland also began earlier this year.
The increased production reflects the popularity of Lexmark's award-winning line of color inkjet printers. The company entered the inkjet market in 1994 and in November 1997 created the rapidly growing sub-$100 category.
"Lexmark's inkjet printer business is the fastest-growing part of our company," said Bernard Masson, president of Lexmark's Consumer Printer Division. "We expect continued strong growth in this market and the expanded production capacity will enable us to better meet customer demand worldwide."
The size and cost of the new plants and expansion projects will not be disclosed.
