Acclaimed Artist Barbara McCann's `Greek Islands' Exhibition Premieres at La Jolla's Fingerhut Gallery

Business Wire, August 9, 1999

LA JOLLA, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Aug. 9, 1999--

On Friday, Aug. 20, the Fingerhut Gallery of La Jolla will host opening night festivities from 6 to 9 p.m. to launch its exhibition of recent paintings by celebrated artist Barbara McCann, titled her "Greek Islands" series.

The artist, best known for her vividly colored, lushly evocative landscapes, will be present at the La Jolla opening to unveil this latest collection of works inspired by Greek themes and locales. The exhibition will run through Sept. 20.

A strong affinity with the diversity and cultural richness of the world is a continuing thread for the widely collected McCann, many of whose paintings are inspired by the places she has visited in her extensive travels.

"I tramp around the world," said the Pennsylvania-born artist, "offering people through paintings the wonderful architecture, cultures and sights out there."

Working mainly in oil, in a heavily textured, impasto technique, McCann has achieved wide popularity and critical acclaim for her evocative use of color, light and shadow in landscapes that combine realistic detail with the artist's own fanciful "re-imagining" of the scene.

After establishing an early career as an innovative architectural illustrator, McCann began slowly gaining the attention of fine arts collectors when she turned her hand to watercolors, and then to the imaginative, vibrantly colored oil paintings that have brought her critical praise and numerous successful gallery exhibitions around the world.

Fingerhut Gallery of La Jolla is located at 1205 Prospect St. in La Jolla. For further information, or to RSVP for opening night festivities, those interested can call 800/774-2278.
