Retrospect 5.0 Faster to DLT 8000; Independent Testing by Quantum Finds Retrospect Faster than ARCserveIT and Backup Exec

Business Wire, Dec 1, 1999

ORINDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1999--

Dantz Development Corporation announced today independent tests by Quantum Corporation (NYSE:DSS) found Retrospect(R) Backup outperformed both Computer Associates (NYSE:CA) ARCserveIT and Veritas (Nasdaq:VRTS) Backup Exec.

The tests were performed with Quantum's high-performance DLT(TM) 8000 drives connected to Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) Windows(R) NT(R) Servers.

"Retrospect software highlights the impressive performance of our DLT 8000 drives," said William Boles, vice president of marketing for Quantum's DLTtape and Storage Systems Group.

Retrospect attains high performance without sacrificing reliability. Computer Reseller News' Test Center recent review affirmed: "Retrospect 5.0 Server Edition proved itself in every test engineers could think of throwing at it, and it earns a recommendation from the CRN Test Center at Comdex."

The Quantum DLT Platform Solutions Guide indicates installing Retrospect "was quick and easy because Retrospect includes hundreds of customized drivers and dynamically loads the right one for your backup device."

The Guide further states that "Dantz Retrospect for Windows NT has several unique technologies that differentiate it from other backup products and provide key benefits in terms of reliability to customers. Advanced architecture and powerful features make it reliable and easy to use. IncrementalPLUS and Snapshot technology allow for faster, safer backups, and accurate, single-pass restores. True verification and multiple, rotating backup sets, each complete in itself, provide additional levels of security."

Retrospect is also available for Apple (Nasdaq:AAPL) Macintosh(R) computers.

Other companies that provide DLT-based hardware include ATL Products, Dell Computer (NASDAQ:DELL), Hewlett Packard (NYSE:HWP), and Tandberg Data ASA.
