The McGraw-Hill Companies Appoints Robert E. Evanson President Of Its Educational and Professional Publishing Group

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1999--

The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. (NYSE: MHP) today named Robert E. Evanson president of its Educational and Professional Publishing Group, effective January 1, 2000. Evanson succeeds Jack E. Witmer, who is retiring after 30 years of service to the Corporation.

Mr. Evanson will lead the continued expansion of The McGraw-Hill Companies' educational and professional publishing businesses. Evanson previously served as executive vice president, Educational and Professional Publishing, and has played a significant role in building and expanding this business segment.

Before joining The McGraw-Hill Companies, Evanson held various posts at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, including chief operating officer and chief financial officer, as well as chief executive officer of the company's Sea World Theme Park Group. Earlier in his career he was a financial officer at Harper & Row and a partner at Arthur Andersen & Co.

Evanson is a CPA and holds a BA from St. John's University and a MBA from New York Institute of Technology.
