ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1999

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reporting that AirTran Airways has achieved a "level one" rating for Y2K readiness, the highest rating available.

The FAA rating one is defined as: "Most available information regarding this airline indicates that a comprehensive and thorough program to attempt to identify and correct potential aviation-related Y2K problems has been implemented."

"AirTran Airways has committed substantial resources to prepare for the Millennium roll over and we don't expect to encounter any problems over New Year's Eve," said Joe Leonard, AirTran Airways chairman and chief executive officer. "With the assistance of CoreTech Consulting Group, all critical systems have been checked and are Y2K compliant. Our customers can be confident that they will receive the same superior level of safety and reliability as always."

Systemwide, AirTran Airways operates over 264 daily departures to 30 cities. Offering the convenience of easy, same concourse connections in Atlanta, AirTran Airways operates over 130 daily departures from Atlanta Hartsfield, the "World's Busiest Airport," as designated by Airports Council International.

AirTran Airways provides everyday, affordable air travel throughout the eastern United States, and unlike other airlines, never requires a roundtrip purchase or Saturday night stay. AirTran Airways is the launch customer for the Boeing 717, today's newest, most innovative commercial aircraft. AirTran Airways is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:AAIR)
