SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1999

This year, extravagance is de rigueur, and for upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations, only the most glamorous and dramatic will suffice. For last minute shoppers looking for that perfect New Year's Eve outfit, fabulous, fairy-tale fetes that conjure images of diaphanous dresses, sumptuous fabrics and a garden of beautiful colors and glowing gems in full bloom can still be a reality with Nordstrom.com's online fashion center.

"Many people have put off tomorrow, what they can do today for the Millennium celebration," said Victoria Dellinger, vice president, merchandising, Nordstrom.com. "At Nordstrom.com, however, there is still time to look stylish and elegant for the upcoming New Year's Eve festivities - regardless of if you're planning a night out on the town, or staying at home with friends and family."

Shoppers can take advantage of the hottest fashion for the holidays when they visit http://www.Nordstrom.com. With special attention given to the latest millennium-wear at the site, customers can choose from a beaded tank dress to steel and18K gold cuff links to simple accessories that will complete that perfect New Year's look. "This season, consumers are giving a lot of thought to their celebration outfits, choosing looks with an element of fantasy and fun," said Dellinger. "The added excitement for the new millennium seems to be fueling this desire to indulge in looks as festive as the season."

For women, the hottest look for the holidays is the wrap - anything luxurious, such as a cashmere pashmina shawl, elegantly draped over a long, slim column silhouette. Other big sellers are skirts and dresses that rely on simple and clean shapes interwoven with gorgeous color or long trains. For a look that's just as formal but a touch more whimsical, a full, drop-waist ball skirt with a cropped cashmere pullover, delicate ballet-style wrap sweater, or a shimmery T-shirt is sure to be a hit. For an ultra-sophisticated twist, it can be paired with a modern sleeveless turtleneck in a stretchy, hi-tech fabric.

"For men, the biggest holiday fashion statement is made with a more traditional and elegant look," said Dellinger. "The best investment is in fabrics that look updated and rich, such as chenille, velvet and printed velour."

Men can also enjoy a less formal look by enhancing their wardrobe with a velvet sport coat paired with everything from a dress shirt and tie to an open sport shirt or cashmere sweater. The key is to match the subtle colors with the season's hippest fabrics.

Some other hot looks for the holidays include:

Accessories: For women, lots of sparkle is the quintessential accompaniment to any style of dress. From studded bracelets to clips to headbands to earrings and necklaces, and even tiaras - some of season's best offerings are glitzy, beaded chokers with tiny drop ornaments and single, double or triple-strand "illusion" necklaces. For men, a stud set that is elegant and simple, such as mother-of-pearl or onyx will express individual style. Silk braces worn with a suit or tuxedo also can add a touch of class to the evening.

Shoes: This New Year's Eve, women have choices. Satin ballet flats and Mary Janes are the best footwear choices with longer ball skirts and fluid pants. Knee-length skirts and even cropped pants look best with just a bit of height. For the fashion-forward, one of the newest special occasion footwear choices is a mule with a one to three inch spike heel. The best shoe for men is this holiday season is black oxford in leather or satin.
