Family.com Judges Best Christmas Cookies; Winner receives a $1000 gift certificate to toysmart.com

Family.com, the premier parenting Web site that is part of GO.com (NYSE:GO), has held its annual online Christmas cookie contest once again this year and has awarded the grand prize to Lisa A., of Ely, NV, who received a $1000 gift certificate to toysmart.com (www.toysmart.com).

Lisa submitted Bizcochitoes -- kid-friendly cookies in holiday shapes. The recipe is included below.

The contest ran from November 17, through December 15, and users submitted, via e-mail, their favorite recipes by logging on to Family.com. Special guest judge Jennifer Appel, owner of the Buttercup Bake Shop in New York City and co-founder of the Magnolia Bakery in Greenwich Village, joined the editors of Family.com in choosing the five finalists. Nancy Salter, mother of five and a former pastry chef, also assisted in the selection of finalists. Of the winning recipe, Appel said, "Those cookies had great texture. They had a nice, subtle blend of spices that added to the depth of the flavor."

Four runners-up received a copy of Disney's Family Fun, "Cookies for Christmas" and a Family Fun cookbook. The runners-up were:

BIZCOCHITOES From the kitchen of: Lisa A., Ely, Nevada

6 cups flour, sifted 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 lb. (4 sticks) butter 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 tsp. anise seed 3 eggs 1/4 cup sugar plus 1 tsp. cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, sift flour with baking powder and salt. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, cream butter with sugar and anise seed. In a small bowl, beat eggs until fluffy and add to the creamed mixture. Add flour mixture and mix until blended.

Knead the dough slightly and pat or roll to 1/4- to 1/2-inch thick and cut into shapes using cookie cutters. Dust the tops of each cookie with the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Bake for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
